A public conversation with Hungarian writers and journalists will take place in Kyiv
On October 9, at 6:30 pm, the public discussion "Ukraine and Hungary: points of intersection and knowledge" involving Hungarian writers, journalists, and media experts will take place at the PEN Ukraine Space (Kyiv, 14a Lukyanivska St.)
Speakers:
- Dénes Krusovszky - Hungarian poet, fiction writer, and essayist, currently lives in Budapest. He studied Hungarian language and literature, aesthetics and comparative literature between 2000 and 2008 at the ELTE University of Budapest. He was one of the founders of the Telep (’Settlement’) poet’s group which was active between 2005 and 2009. He has thirteen books published in different genres from poetry and children poetry through essays and short stories to novels. His poems and fiction were translated to German, English, Croatian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Polish, Latvian, Danish, Swedish, Romanian among others. Krusovszky also works as a journalist for the Budapest based independent weekly magazine Magyar Narancs.
- Marton Jankovics studied philosophy at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. He is a journalist and head the Culture column of 24.hu, which is one of the major independent news site in Hungary. In addition to art and culture, he also regularly covers social and geopolitical affairs with special focus on the devastating war in Ukraine.
- Dr Gábor Polyák works as a professor of media law and media policy and as the head of the Media and Communication Department of the Eötvös Loránd University. He also works as a senior research fellow for the Institute for Legal Studies of the Centre for Social Sciences. Further, he is the founding researcher of Mertek Media Monitor, a Hungarian NGO dealing with media policy issues. He was a research fellow at the University of Münster's Institute for Information, Telecommunication and Media Law from 2014 to 2016. His educational background includes law and media studies at the University of Pécs, a Master of Laws degree in ICT law at the University of Vienna, and a PhD degree and habilitation at the University of Pécs. He teaches and researches media law, IT law, and media policy. In 2020, he was awarded the Voltaire Prize for Tolerance, International Understanding and Respect for Differences at the University of Potsdam.
