Project description

In Solidarity with Ukraine is a program of foreign cultural activists, journalists, human rights advocates, and opinion leaders’ visits to Ukraine. Delegations get acquainted with Ukrainian culture, meet representatives of cultural and human rights organizations and national media, and visit liberated localities of Ukraine to see firsthand the consequences of crimes committed by the Russian army.

The program is aimed at providing delegates with the sense of context and understanding of contemporary situation in wartime Ukraine.

Upon completing the visits, the members of delegations become ambassadors of Ukraine abroad. They spread the word about the war and Ukrainian culture in the international media, launch projects of support and establish connections with Ukrainian cultural, civic, and human rights organizations.

Since December 2022, PEN Ukraine has hosted in Kyiv and organized trips to liberated territories for writers and journalists from the USA, UK, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, Croatia, France, Czech Republic, Spain, Belgium, Latvia, Netherlands, India, South Africa, and Argentina. 44 foreign authors have visited Ukraine within the program so far.

In 2023, four visits within the program were organized in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute and supported by the Prague Civil Society Centre. The following delegations were supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.
