Artist Bohdan Ziza sentenced to 15 years in prison
Bohdan Ziza, the artist from Crimea who doused the door of the occupation municipal administration in Yevpatoria with blue and yellow paint last year, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Russian military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced the artist to 15 years in a penal colony. Bohdan Ziza is to spend the first four years in prison.
We will remind that in the night of May 16, 2022, he doused the door of the occupation municipal administration in Yevpatoria with paint in the Ukrainian flag colors and tried to set fire to it in protest against the war. The next day, Bohdan Ziza was detained and accused of having committed a terrorist attack. He was also charged with calls for terrorism on account of the video appeal he recorded along with his performance.
In his final statement, Ziza spoke on the importance of standing up against the war and on the danger of silence. After that, he declared a hunger strike from June 10. Ziza’s demand was to deprive him of Russian citizenship and to release all Ukrainian political prisoners from Russian prisons.
