"Modern Ukrainian poetry may seem too emotional and sometimes sentimental when viewed from the west; too simple and devoid of formal ornaments, if you look at it from the east; at the same time, here in the middle, it is in balance, like a bridge resting on two shores. I don't know what it is like if you look at it from the south. Perhaps this anthology will answer this question? Undoubtedly, the complex lace created by this sample stems, in particular, from the various life experiences of the authors. […] But above all this there is a common overtone, an overtone of a decisive historical moment, not to think about which is not a manifestation of radical creative freedom, but infantilism and pretense. The poet, like a sensitive antenna, conveys this alarm, although it would seem - as the Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert wrote - "always thinking about something else." "Doesn't thinking about 'something else' mean thinking about the most important thing?" - notes in the preface to the publication the poet, translator and member of the Executive Board of PEN Ukraine Ostap Slyvynsky.
"Anthology of Young Ukrainian Poetry" was the first publication supported by the Translate Ukraine program of the Ukrainian Book Institute.
