Book description

The first workshop festival Propysy (Practice Writing) took place in Ivano-Frankivsk on September 9-12, 2021. Ten debuting authors selected on a competitive basis (Bohdan Ben, Olesya Bohdan, Ganna Gnedkova, Sofiia Holovetska, Orysia Hrudka, Arina Kravchenko, Rostyslav Kuzyk, Romaniia Strotska, Dariia Suzdalova, and Viktoriia Feshchuk) took part in it. The book available in both print and digital formats contains the ten young authors’ poetry and prose extracts, along with essays depicting their impressions from the workshop festival. The almanac also includes a foreword from Ostap Slyvynskyi, project curator, poet, translator, and vice president of PEN Ukraine.

"Texts of the authors who are going to shape Ukrainian literature soon are hiding under the cover of this almanac. Their innovation does not catch the eye as flashy tendencies of the 1920s or 1990s, but it exists in its own calm and sensible manner. Somebody is already quite mature in their writing, while someone is still proving themselves. A few years (or maybe decades) afterward we will look back at these outstanding debuts and see what they would have resulted in. I believe that the Propysy festival in general and this almanac, in particular, is a boat to bring these talented writers to the open sea of literature," said Ostap Slyvynsky, the project curator.

The online version of the almanac is available free on the PEN Ukraine website.

The project was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
