Zharzhailo Mykhailo

Poet, essayist, translator

Author of two poetry collections – Karma Militia (2014, second prize from the Smoloskyp Publishing House) and Unacceptible Symbols (2020, listed among the best poetry collections of the year according to PEN Ukraine). His new collections – PIKACHU, The Cult of Every Person, and Feelings or Deeds – are still in progress. Some of Zharzhailo’s poems have been translated into 9 languages and published in Ukrainian and foreign media and anthologies, used in theater and techno performances, and exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. He is a participant of a media poetry group AETHER.mcrt, author of the project Constitution Blackouts (2018), initiator of a VR exhibition Law Blackouts (2021), and co-author of the project Ctrl+Z (2022).

Zharzhailo won a range of literary and art contests and prizes, participated in art and literary residencies. He got fellowships from PEN Ukraine (2022), Goethe Institut and Kunsht magazine (2023), Translatorium (2024).

He is a co-translator of Dmitry Kuzmin’s book Blankets Not Provided and translator of a poetry selection Stone Listening by a queer non-binary author R. B. Lemberg into Ukrainian.
