Matiyash Bohdana

Matiyash Bohdana

Writer, translator, editor

Born on January 28, 1982 in Kyiv.

Graduated from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy with a degree in "Philology. History, Literary Theory and Comparative Studies" (2004).

Debuted with poetry book "Undeveloped Photos" (Kyiv: Smoloskyp, 2005), but gained recognition with the next poetry collection, "conversations with God" (Lviv: Staryi Lev Publishing House, 2007). Kostiantyn Moskalets called "conversations with God" the most sensational poetry publication of 2007, and Andriy Bondar suggested that "conversations with God" will eventually become a cult book, as it happened, for example, with Oleh Lysheha’s first collection, "The Great Bridge", or Vasyl Herasymiuk's "Children of Aspen".

Participated in residencies for writers and translators in Poland, Austria, Latvia, Germany, and Ukraine, as well as in numerous international literary festivals.

In 2007-2012, Bohdana was the author and moderator of her own project of literary readings at NaUKMA.

She is an expert of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and literary editor of Krytyka magazine.

Bohdana translates from Polish, Belarusian, and English. In particular, she translated books by Leszek Kolakowski, Ryszard Kapuscinski, Andrzej Stasiuk, Mariusz Szczygiel, and other authors.
