Children's writer, translator, publicist

Oksana Lushchevska is a children's author, translator, publicist, children's and adolescent literature scholar.

Born February 17, 1982 in the city of Talne, Cherkassy region. Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University.

From 2010 to 2012 she studied for her Master’s at the Pennsylvania State University (USA). In 2016, she earned a doctorate in education from the University of Georgia (USA). Specializes in children's literature and reader's response.

For three years, she worked as a reviewer of translated books for the American Section of the International Council for Children and Youth Books (IBBY). She wrote about Ukrainian children's literature to the IBBY European Newsletter. The initiator of the project Step Ahead: Becoming Global with bilingual Ukrainian-English picturebooks, in cooperation with Bratske Publishing house. The project published up to ten bilingual picturebooks. Co-founder of the blog about contemporary children's literature Kazkarka and Critic’s rating: the best children's and teenage books of the year.

Children's books by Oksana Lushchevska were repeatedly shortlisted in contests BBC Ukrainian Book of the Year, LitAccent of the Year and highly praised by the experts of the Ukrainian children's portal BaraBooka. In 2017 the book The Wind from under the Sun was included into the prestigious catalog of the 200 best children's books of the world White Ravens.

The teenage story Zazerkalya and the collection of stories Blue Umbrella by Oksana Lushchevska were staged by the STUDIO N.Zh. Theater Studio, and they are often broadcasted on the radio. The writer's texts are included in the "Book of Modern Ukrainian Children's Literature."

Oksana Lushchevska is the laureate of the literary contests Golden Stork (2008), Smoloskyp (2009), Granoslov (2007), Write a book about me (2016, 2018).

The prose and poetry of Oksana Lushchevska were published in periodicals and anthologies, in particular in the anthologies AZ, two, three ... twelve - letter in a bottle, Red and black: One hundred Ukrainian poets of the twentieth century, Mom over Skype and numerous collections and magazines for children.

Since 2014 Oksana actively advises Ukrainian publishers on books for translation. She participates as a consultant and author in the development of many literary projects, for example, "She did it" ("Vydavnytstvo Publishing House").

Edited and translated catalogs of Ukrainian children's literature from leading Ukrainian publishing houses for international exhibitions.

Founder of the Joyful Fox Reading Club children's online courses aimed at developing a reader's culture, critical thinking and visual literacy.

Oksana Lushchevska now lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
