Luchuk Olha

Graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv with a degree in English language and literature. She received her Candidate of Philology Degree from Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University in 1996. Her dissertation dealt with the topic of Ukrainian translations of Shakespeare’s plays. She currently works as an Associate Professor of English and Translation Studies at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Dr. Luchuk also taught at the Pennsylvania State University (USA), Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, and the East European State Higher School in Przemyśl (Poland).

She has authored two scholarly monographs and over 80 articles and reviews in the fields of Translation Studies, Literary Criticism, and Ukrainian Studies. She compiled and edited two bilingual anthologies of Ukrainian literature in English: A Hundred Years of Youth (2000) and In а Different Light (2008). She also edited English translations in two bilingual editions of Ukrainian poetry by Lina Kostenko (2002) and Viktor Neborak (2005). Her recent publications include the book series Colloquia Epistolaria, which contains the correspondence of the renowned figures of Ukrainian scholarship and culture.

In 1999, as a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Luchuk conducted research on the reception of Ukrainian literature in the United States, as well as on Ukrainian-American literary and artistic contacts. She also taught a course on Ukrainian Culture and Civilization at the Pennsylvania State University (USA). In 2006 and 2017, she was awarded grants from the John Kolasky Memorial Endowment Fund (CIUS), and in 2006, as a Petro Jacyk Fellow, she did her research at the University of Toronto (Canada). In 2011 she received the Eugene and Daymel Shklar Research Fellowship in Ukrainian Studies from Harvard University (USA).

Dr. Olha Luchuk participated in numerous conferences, seminars, and literary festivals both in Ukraine and abroad. Her international experience includes participation in programs and conferences at Old Dominion University, the Pennsylvania State University, Harvard University, Columbia University in New York, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), Plater College Oxford (Great Britain), the University of Toronto, the University of Alberta (Canada), the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University of Lublin and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Poland), Tallinn University (Estonia), and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (Japan). She also participated in international literary festivals in Slovenia (2003) and Serbia (2008), as well as in international forums of writers and translators in Armenia (2008, 2009).

In spring 2017, Dr. Olha Luchuk delivered Danylo Husar Struk Memorial Lecture entitled "A Ukrainian Animal Farm: Translating George Orwell" at the University of Toronto (Canada).
