Petro Yatsenko was born in 1978 in Lviv. He is the author of eight books. He also works in journalism and teaches creative writing. Yatsenko was a participant in the Gaude Polonia programme where he worked under the guidance of Booker Prize-winning Polish novelist Olga Tokarchuk, and the Bank Austria Literalis programme.

The writer has received numerous national literary awards including The New Authors (for his book The Yoghurt God), and Smoloskyp (for Marianna, or The Boghdhi Tree). His novel The Comeback of Idiots was dramatised in 2016 at Chernihiv theatre. Don’t Listen. Don’t Speak. Don’t Look (Ukrainian – Nechui. Nemov. Nebach) won its author a UNESCO City of Literature first award.
