Details of the case:
Ruslan Suleymanov was born on April 21, 1983. He is a Crimean Tatar; he has a wife and 4 children. He graduated from the Department of Physics of Magnetic Phenomena of the Tavria Institute of Ecology in Simferopol. Besides, he worked as a software engineer and a physics teacher. Ruslan was invited to work abroad but he rejected the invitation because he considered himself obliged to support the families of political prisoners.
As a civic journalist and activist of the Crimean Solidarity, he had been repeatedly detained for his activity. While in imprisonment, he has been put on the record due to his alleged "propensity to breakout and attack". He is imprisoned under the articles 205.5, chapter 2 ("Providing the activity of an organization recognized as terroristic in the accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation") and article 278 ("Violent seizure of power or violent retaining power") of the Russian Federation’s Criminal Code and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He is held in the prison of the Federal Service of Execution of Sentences (aka FSIN) in the city of Verkhneuralsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russian Federation.
"After 2014, the active public was declared terrorists and extremists; people have started going missing or being tortured to death for their stance, as Reshat Ametov. The "Vedzhie Kashka case" is a detention which caused her death. There have been numerous criminal cases and crackdown on activists and Crimean Muslims," Ruslan Suleymanov, 20 May 2020.
