A joint information campaign by the George Gongadze Prize and Lviv Media Forum NGO seeks to remind the civil society and the Ukrainian media of the values of independent journalism, the value of truth, and of the fact that dissemination of inconvenient information is a perilous job for the commonweal.
The campaign was launched on 16 September 2020 on the day when 20 years ago George Gongadze was abducted and murdered. It comprises a number of events: Price of Word panel discussion as part of BookForum; Commemoration of George Gongadze and all Ukrainian journalists who were murdered during which the Statement of Human Rights and Media Organizations was presented; and a series of op-eds and videos featuring independent journalists and opinion leaders. A significant part of the campaign is the #priceofword flash mob as part of which media professionals share their stories and views on the importance of true words.
