
Vovchenko Anna
Born in 1985 in Kyiv. Literary translator from English and Spanish languages into Ukrainian. Co-founder and Program Director of Europe Island Festival (Vinnytsia, Ukraine).
In 2007 graduated from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (M.A. in Ukrainian Literature).
Worked as an editor on TV. In 2012 actually became a literary translator when Ukrainian edition of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s "Anne of Green Gables" was published by Urbino Publishing House.
In 2014 became a prizewinner of the Metaphora Translative Contest for the translation of Federico García Lorca’s essay "Theory and Play of the Duende" (Juego y teoría de duende), and Federico García Lorca’s selected poems from the book "Poet in New York" (Poeta en Nueva York). In 2015 was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation of Canada for translation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables Series and making a notable contribution for popularization of Canadian literature in Ukraine therefore.
Worked with Bartleby Company and Litosvita literary workshops as a lecturer and curator of translation study programs. Co-operated with 1st Odesa International Literary Festival (2015) and Author’s Reading Month Literary Festival (Lviv, Ukraine) as a Spanish to Ukrainian translator.
In 2015, joint with Kateryna Kalytko, founded the project named Europe Island. It was focused on so called "chamber" languages and literatures and realized within Publishers’ Forum in Lviv, Book Arsenal in Kyiv, and Intermezzo Short Story Festival in Vinnytsia until 2018 when it had developed into an autonomous cognominal international festival aimed to highlight not only the small European literatures, but also the humanitarian issues they put on the agenda.
Distinctions
Дипломантка перекладацького конкурсу "Метафора" (2013—2014 років). Відзнаку здобув переклад есею Ф. Г. Лорки "Гра й теорія дуенде". Лауреатка відзнаки Посольства Канади в Україні за вагомий внесок у популяризацію канадської літератури за кордоном (2014).
