Svitlana Povaliaieva is a Ukrainian writer, poet, journalist and civic activist. She was born on March 20, 1974, in Kyiv.

Povaliaieva graduated from the Institute of Journalism of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (department of TV journalism at the Faculty of International Journalism). She worked as a journalist on radio, TV and in various internet and printed media. Among her working experiences, she appreciates the most the cooperation with Volodymyr Pavliv at IMC (now STB) TV channel, Oleksandr Kryvenko at the P&C (Politics and Culture) magazine, Roman Chayka at 5 TV channel, and Myroslava Barchuk at TVi.

Svitlana Povaliaieva is the winner of poetry competitions such as Young Wine, the All-Ukraine Literary Competition from the Smoloskyp Publishing House, or Start: Young Artists’ Competition from the International Renaissance Foundation.

Povaliaieva participated in numerous literary and music festivals, three revolutions (Revolution on Granite, Orange Revolution and Revolution of Dignity) and protest actions such as Ukraine Without Kuchma and the Language Maidan.

She is the author of seven poetry collections and one children’s book. Her texts had been published in many anthologies.
