Marynycheva Olena

Russian translator, journalist, critic

Born in the village of Bilenke, Zaporizhzhia region, in 1954, Elena is a Russian translator, journalist, and critic.

In 1958 her family moved to the city of Zaporizhzhia, and in 1962 Elena started at high school #31 with Ukrainian as the primary language of instruction and advanced English. In 1972 she finished school with a gold medal. The same year she joined the Department of Journalism at the Lomonosov Moscow State University with a major in literary critics. She was studying under supervision of Professor Anatoly Bocharov, the founder of Faculty of Literary Critics at MSU.

Elena worked as a journalist for Moscow publications: Club, Kultura i Zhyzn. She also published translations and critical reviews for Izvestiya, Literaturnoye Obozreniye, The New Times, Novaya Gazeta, Obshchaya Gazeta, Computerra, Noviy Mir, Novaya Yunost, Druzhba Narodov, Colta.ru, textonly and others. She’s a member of the International Federation of Translators (since 2007) and the Masters of Literary Translation Guild (since 2015).
