Hordiienko Serafym

Essayist, military serviceman

Born in Odesa on 20 December 2002.

Serafym Hordiienko studied history at the Ukrainian Catholic University. Since 2019, he began writing essays. On 24 February 2022, at the age of 19, he left the university and took up arms to defend Kyiv.

He fought for Pisky in spring and summer 2022 as a combat volunteer of the Pravyi Sektor. Since September 2022, he had served as a reconnaissance agent of the 140th Separate Reconnaissance Marine Battalion. He was awarded the Defender of the Motherland Medal for participation in the first ever documented destruction of a Russian BMPT Terminator.

During his combat service at the Kreminna direction, together with Oleksandr "Dante" Mieniailov, Hordiienko became the author of the concept of metaromanticism as a new artistic direction designed to unite the veteran art based on the events of Russian full-scale invasion and develop its artistic image.

In summer 2023, he was transferred to the 14th separate regiment to complete numerous combat missions in its ranks. Was awarded the Golden Cross medal, Military Honor Cross medal and the Medal for Distinguished Service. He currently serves in the 14th separate regiment (1 Separate Center of the Unmanned System Forces since December 2025) as a center officer. 

In April 2024, his book Metaromantics: Blood, Steppe, and Eternity ("Метаромантика: Кров, степ і вічність") went on sale. In his interview for The Guardian, Hordiienko said that this book declared the establishment of the eponymous veteran cultural platform.

In September 2024, the METAROMANTICS cultural platform was launched as an independent media. 

In September 2025, Hordiienko produced the first issue of the military art almanac Metaromantics that united more than 20 Ukrainian combat authors and continued the eponymous project.
