Byehlov Volodymyr
Born on 14 November 1986 in Lviv. In 2008, he graduated as a philosopher from Lviv National Ivan Franko University. Byehlov is a Ukrainian journalist, educator in human rights and cultural manager. He worked for different media in Lviv and Kyiv.
In 2014, jointly with sociologist Taras Prokopyshyn and journalist Inna Bereznitska, he co-founded The Ukrainians online media. He recorded over 20 conversations with Ukrainians about success, initiative, and responsibility. He edited two volumes of the book "The Ukrainians: Success Stories", published by The Old Lion Publishing House.
Since 2015, Byehlov had worked as a communications manager at the Center for Urban History of Central and Eastern Europe. He managed two seasons of the educational series Jewish Days in the Ratusha, held under the motto "Lviv’s Jewish history is our joint legacy and joint responsibility", and Modernism Days in the Ratusha.
In 2015, he co-founded the first nomadic online radio Skovoroda. In his daily evening show, Byehlov’s Theory, he talked with his guests about culture, civic society, charity, and reforms. With support from the Freedom House Ukraine, he implemented the educational project Majority of Minorities, aimed to increase the visibility of minority groups in Ukraine.
Byehlov’s first poetry collection Faithbook was published in 2017 by The Old Lion Publishing House. His short prose was also included in various anthologies.
In 2018, he founded the Human Rights Education Center in Lviv – an NGO to implement art and education projects aimed at promoting the value of human rights among Ukrainians. Among its biggest projects there are the Different.Equals campaign in support of LGBTIQ people, series of lectures Therapy for the City and Ten Fellows of Diversity, educational sessions for the employees of Lviv City Council etc.
Since 2021, Byeglov runs the American House Lviv, a cultural center developed on the ground of Ukraine’s and the USA’s common values to empower local communities, ideas exchange and cooperation. The center actively works with Lviv’s young leaders, cultural community and civic society, providing opportunities to implement projects for both emerging and professional activists.
In 2022, jointly with literary scholar Iryna Starovoyt, Byehlov launched the YouTube channel Plans for Tomorrow – a series of conversations with Ukrainian experts aimed at reconsidering and reinventing of the Ukrainian identity and the idea of Ukrainian future in even the biggest existential danger.
Since spring 2025, he runs a YouTube project The Land of People in cooperation with The Ukrainians Media – a series of in-depth conversations with inspirers who can help overcome despair and frustration.
Volodymyr Byehlov is a participant of the International Visitors Leadership Program and the Ukrainian School of Political Studies alumnus.
