Ametov Ernes
Civic journalist of the Crimean Solidarity NGO
Date of birth: 30.05.1985
Date of detention: 11.10.2017
Sentence: 11 years in a penal colony
Details of the case:
Born on May 30, 1985, Ernes Ametov is a married father of two sons. He got a degree in law, worked as an entrepreneur and journalist, and is a specialist in internet connectivity. Ernes is a god-fearing, wise and friendly person, devoted son, husband and father.
During the shakedown, the FSB officers traumatized Ametov’s children and detained himself with no evidence. The investigation lasted for three years, and finally, in 2020, ended with Ametov’s release from custody due to the lack of evidence, which is a precedent for such cases. Nevertheless, in 2022, the decision was reevaluated, and Ernes was sentenced to 11 years in penal colony. Human rights defenders claim that this decision was not lawful due to a violation of the principle of equality because only one party (i.e. FSB) participated in it.
Ernes was imprisoned under article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Participation in the activity of an organization recognized as terrorist in accordance with the law of the Russian Federation). He is held in the penal colony №12 (Sheksna village, Vologda Oblast, Russian Federation).
"A human being has been given brain to analyze and correlate information. This is what I did. If it’s a crime – then, pardon me, I don’t know how else I could live my life if I’m even forbidden to correlate information. Be just a mediocre not raising my head higher than required in this country," – Ernes Ametov, September 2022.
