Yermolenko Volodymyr

President of PEN Ukraine

Born in 1980, Volodymyr is a Ukrainian philosopher, writer and journalist.

Author of books "The Distant, The Close", "The Ocean Catcher" (2017), "Volatile Ideologies" (2018), "Narrator and Philosopher" (2011).

Doctor of Political Studies (Paris, 2011), PhD (Kyiv, 2008), Master in International Relations (Budapest, 2003).

Since 2009, Director of European projects at the Internews Ukraine NGO.

Since 2015, journalist at; Head of the weekly "Hromadske. World".

Since 2017, one of the initiators, editor-in-chief of the UkraineWorld initiative (

Since 2009, Professor at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy (Department of Literature Studies)

Since 2017, columnist for "Kraina" journal.

Since 2018, member of the Supervisory Board at the Ukrainian Institute.

In 2013–2017, moderator of the educational project EU Study Days.

In 2000–2002, coordinator of the project "Lab of Academic Translation".

Author of numerous articles about Ukraine, Europe, global processes in Ukrainian and foreign press (,,, Le Monde, Atlantic Council, Financial Times, Newsweek, EUObserver, Euractiv, Die Welt, etc.).

He frequently comments on Ukrainian events in the international press (The Economist, Le Monde, Radio France International, France 24, Suedeutsche Zeitung, La Croix, Mediapart and others).

In 2017, he co-initiated a project "Voice of the war: Veteran Stories" (Internews Ukraine, 2017).

The same year, he was an editor-in-chief of a publication "Words and Wars: Ukraine Facing Kremlin Propaganda" (Internews-Ukraine, 2017).

He has conducted open lectures within projects at the EU Study Days, Kyiv Mohyla Business School, School of Political Studies, Ukrainian Leadership Academy, Open University of Maidan, Book Arsenal, etc.
