Sigov Kostiantyn

Born in Kyiv on May 31, 1962. Philosopher and public figure, director of the European Humanities Research Center of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, director of the “Dukh i Litera” (Spirit and Letter) Scientific and Publishing Association, editor-in-chief of the “Dukh i Litera” magazine.

In 1984, graduated from the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute. In 1986, entered the post-graduate course of the H.S. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU). Here, Kostiantyn Sigov defended his Ph.D. Thesis titled “Game as a Philosophical Anthropology Issue” (1990). In 1986-1991, was working at the Institute of Philosophy of the NASU and holding the position of an academic secretary of the Ukrainian Philosophic Society. Member of the editorial board of “Filosophska ta Sotsiolohichna Dumka” (Philosophic and Sociological Thought) magazine (1989-1995). In 1991, took an internship in Collège de France (Paris). In 1992-1994, was an Associate Professor at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences. In 1992, created and became the head of the Laboratory of France and Ukraine (since 1996 — the European Humanities Research Centre) at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

In 1992, created and became the director of the “Dukh i Litera” Scientific and Publishing Association. In 1997, took part in creation of the “Dukh i Litera” magazine and remains its editor-in-chief to the present day. His editorial projects establish a base for the development of academic contracts and joint studies with the leading European scientific schools. Such prominent scholars as Paul Ricœur, Georges Nivat, Reinhart Koselleck, Jutta Scherrer, Pierre Hassner, Kallistos Ware, Jonathan Sutton, Barbara Cassin, and others deliver lectures in Kyiv as part of these projects. These lectures are published in “Dukh i Litera” magazine. Kostiantyn Sigov is the author of more than 50 academic papers covering issues of philosophy and history of culture, philosophical anthropology, ethics, and art studies. His studies are published in scientific publications of France, Germany, USA, Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden. Kostiantyn has got an extensive experience of teaching in French and English languages at Sorbonne, Oxford, Stanford, Geneva, Louvaines, etc. The Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France awarded him the Order of Academic Distinction and the honorary title Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques. At the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Sigov is delivering a course of lectures for a Master’s program “European Culture: Conflict of Interpretations”.
