Semkiv Rostyslav

Born on June 6, 1975 in Ternopil. Ukrainian literary scholar, critic, translator, publisher, associate professor at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Biography

1992 — graduated from the Ternopil School #3.

1992—1997 — studied at the Ternopil State Pedagogical University (now — National) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree of the “Teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, English language”.

1997—1999 — studied at a Master’s program “Theory of philology and history of the Ukrainian language, comparative linguistics” at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

1999—2002 — past-graduate student at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

2002 — defended his PhD thesis under specialty 10.01.06. — Theory of Literature titled “Irony as the Structuring Principle of Fictional Text”, gained the degree of the candidate of Philological Sciences.

Since 2013 — Ph.D. Candidate in the specialty “Theory of Literature”.

Professional Experience

Since 2001 — senior teacher, later — associate professor at the Literature Studies Department of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Reads the following courses: “Theory of Literature”, “Introduction to Comparative Linguistics”, “Modern Interpretation Methods”, “Satire and Humor in European Literatures”, “Literature of American Cyberpunk”.

Since 2003 — director of the “Smoloskyp” Publishing House.

Took an internship at Harvard University, at the Supreme Council of Ukraine, at the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information.

A jury member of the 2012 BBC Book of the Year Awards.

The author of scholar articles for professional periodicals, for “Krytyka” Magazine and “Dzerkalo Tyzhnia” Newspaper, reviews on the “LitAktsent” Literary Portal and in “Ukrainskyi Tyzhden” Magazine.

Author of fiction and academic translations.

Committee Member of Taras Shevchenko National Award (since December 2016).
